He says instead of doing a whole lot of very standard things if you want people to remember you, do something out of the norm, the kind of thing that makes friends (or customers) talk about you in the future.
For example, I remember the guy who hired a castle for a writing retreat and gave away some spaces for free.
And I also remember the kindness of my friend from LA who showed up for a two week stay in Europe in January with hand luggage, very little money, and no warm clothes, bought a sweater on a credit card that ended up being too small and gave it to a homeless person in London.
