The builders showed up yesterday for our long-awaited home project of knocking the dining room and kitchen into one big room.
This is going to be a long process, and things will definitely get worse before they get better.
The old kitchen is now split between the front garden and a skip, there’s a lot of hammering going on, and nothing feels very usable at the moment.
And it struck me how similar this is to building a business.
Big changes rarely look impressive at the start. There’s disruption, mess, and that uncomfortable phase where the old thing has gone but the new thing isn’t ready yet. Progress can feel invisible while the noise and inconvenience are very real.
But good results take time. They require patience, trust in the plan, and the ability to live with a bit of chaos while things are being rebuilt.
Whether it’s your home or your business, the middle part is rarely pretty, but it’s where real positive change happens.
And I’m finding the only thing that helps is to have plenty of tea on hand (and red wine, lots of that too!) 💖
