We’re always being told to focus and avoid distractions to get more done.
I’ve said it myself here and to myself many times.
But sitting at your computer all day is not good for anyone, no matter how much work you have on your plate.
And you need time to think without staring at a screen.
So take regular breaks away from your PC to get more done when you’re actually sitting at it.
Don’t go from big screen to small screen scrolling on your phone.
Do something active. Get tasks done around the house that usually pile up when you sit too long.
Exercise or play with the kids or dog.
How often should you take breaks and how long for?
At least ten minutes every hour. Set a timer if you’ll forget.
Experiment to see what times work best for you.
Decide on the focus for each block of work and stick with it for that short time. It should be easier because you know you’re getting a break soon.
You may be saying to yourself, I know this. I’ve heard it all before. Isn’t this just like the Pomodoro technique?
I agree, there’s nothing revolutionary here, but then I have one question for you.
