Hi
Something related to business occurred to me when I was up in the hills beside my house with Alfie dog yesterday trying to do my 10k steps for the day.
There are some sets of 10k steps that are worth much more than others.
There are 10k steps that get me up to the top of this hill in the early summer sunshine with glorious views all around.
And there are 10k steps plodding around the streets of Edinburgh in the dark with the frosty rain blowing in my face.
Both clock up 10k on my fitness watch.
But I know which I’d rather do. 🤣
It’s the same in business; you can have gloriously awesome $10k months or you can have ones that don’t feel that great.
But in this case (unlike the Scottish weather) you get to decide!
You can earn $10k where you love doing what you do, and you help others with your work, and that’s amazing.
Or you can have $10k months where you don’t really enjoy what you’re doing and you have to make yourself work.
Or worse, you can create something full of drivel and sell it to people with a clever sales letter (or worse a pack of lies) and surely, if you have a conscience at all, that doesn’t feel good to you.
You get to spend the $10k results just the same.
If you’re planning a business or expanding your reach, ignore anyone selling the “dream life” that is just about getting money no matter how (and let’s face it there are a lot of these scammy merchants about who could sell sand in the Sahara!)
But you probably give these a wide berth already.
What’s more likely (and this has happened to me a lot over the years) is being drawn in to doing things that sound so good and “easy” but they are really not for you because they’re not where your skills and natural abilities lie or they are not what you particularly enjoy doing.
I couldn’t keep that type of “easy” going for six months, never mind years and years. It was like pushing through the wind and rain on a dark night! And needless to say, there weren’t many $10k months resulting from those!
If you’re thinking of jumping into something new, take a moment to think first whether your new venture is truly in keeping with your values, strengths, and inclinations. And don’t worry, there will be plenty of other options in the future. There really is something for everyone. 💖
