Doing taxes or accounts has never been top of my “to do” list.
Having more left in the bank at the end of the month than I had the previous month, meant a good month.
And the opposite, a bad one!
But I mentioned a couple of months ago that I had started looking at the money coming in and going out every day.
I’ve continued with that habit every morning since.
Paying attention to the figures has had a much bigger effect than I expected.
So if you’re not doing that, I highly recommend it even if you’re just starting in business.
Why?
✨ It’s highly motivating when money comes in. Any money is nice – the sweetest first dollar earned and every single dollar after that!
✨ It stops me spending quite so frivolously when I have to note the difference between what comes in and what goes out
✨ It makes me work harder, do more promotions, and produce more to meet a target that I can see I might be able to aim for if I pushed myself a bit

MORE NUMBERS
After doing that level of accounting (just total money in and out each day) for a couple of months, I can see the value in having more detailed financial information in my business, so I was super excited to see Debbie Gartner’s tracking system today.
This is a simple to use spreadsheet (Google doc format) with all the calculations done for you. You enter the figures and find out all you need to know about the important parts of your business.
Which products are making you the most money? Do more of them!
Which affiliate promotions are working? And which are not worth pursuing?
How are your page views growing? At the moment, I have no clue but I want to grow my organic traffic this year.
What are you making from ads?
What are you spending?
