Do you have any weird ceremonies where you come from?
Burn’s Night must be one of the weirdest, an annual celebration of the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns LOL
In true Scottish tradition, we had haggis for dinner.
About 99% of the world think it’s gross, but it’s just like a crumbly sausage, with a coarse, oaty texture and a warming peppery flavour. The crumbs are made of oats and sheep’s offal, but there’s even vegetarian haggis for the non-meat eaters that tastes just the same.🤣 That thing is delicious!
We’re supposed to eat it with mashed neeps and tatties which is turnip (maybe you call it rutabaga or swede) and potato. These days I call it carbs LOL
And a wee dram (whisky) to accompany the meal. I hate the stuff so didn’t have that.
If you go to a formal Burns Night supper, it will be full of Scotsmen wearing their kilts. 🥰 A piper plays the bagpipes as the haggis is brought in with great ceremony to the meal then there is a formal speech to the haggis “Address to a haggis” (written by Burns) before it is cut open.
After the meal, the Scottish dancing will get a bit wild. (The whisky probably sees to that 😊) The dancing part of the party is called a ceilidh. (kay-lee)
Yes, how weird are we? LOL But I kinda wish I could have gone to a formal event tonight. That’s just not happening this year for obvious reasons.😢
