People have a natural tendency to defend their limitations.
We explain why we can’t do something.
Why now isn’t the right time.
Why it wouldn’t work for us anyway.
These explanations often sound perfectly reasonable. Sensible, even. But over time, they stop being off-the-cuff things we say and start becoming a permanent part of our story.
Of course, we all have real limits in time and energy, as well as responsibilities that limit what we can achieve in any one day. You don’t have to pretend otherwise. But it’s important to stop boundaries shifting from “this is hard right now” to “this is just how I am.”
When you find yourself repeatedly justifying why something isn’t possible, it’s worth pausing to make sure you’re not making that limitation part of your identity.
Stop arguing for your constraints and start testing their edges by slowly pushing ahead no matter what.
You don’t need to announce a big change or prove anything to anyone. Just take tiny steps in the direction you want to go and be careful what you defend before it takes up residence in your brain. 💖
