I was listening to The Diary of a CEO this morning and came across the idea that authenticity isn’t necessarily all it's cracked up to be online.
Of course, you want to know there's a real person behind the content you read. (And hello, I’m a real person here! 🤣)
But you also don't want people to be completely authentic all of the time. That would mean people taking it out on their content when they had a bad day. People don't show up for substandard stuff from The Diary of a CEO! They want consistency.
Where authenticity really matters is in what you stand for, what you focus on and the promises you make to your audience. People should know what they can expect from you and what they can rely on you to provide.
And you may as well build that around something you authentically enjoy doing. Otherwise, maintaining that consistency will become a real grind. 💖
