Instead, try reducing the intensity of overwhelm (in fact any unwelcome feeling you have such as fear or guilt) by calling it out and naming it.
Just tell yourself “This is stress” or “This is overwhelm” or whatever you’re feeling.
According to studies from UCLA you reduce the intensity of a feeling by 50% by naming it.
It’s because you’re then coming from the position of curiosity, observing the feeling at a distance rather than being immersed (or overwhelmed!) by it.
Try it next time you have an unwelcome feeling and see how it works for you! 💖
