Missing a day working on a project is easy enough done. Life gets busy, something else needs your attention, or you run out of steam.
Then you think about returning to your project and realize you’ll have to work out where you were, which file you were using, and what on earth “change this bit” meant.
Apparently, Past You thought that would be enough guidance. 🤣
That little hurdle can turn a short break into a much longer one.
So when you stop working on something, leave yourself a way back in. A few lines will do: where you stopped, where the files are, and what you intended to do next.
Make that next action specific. “Finish the planner” is a lot to come back to. “Add the instructions to page three” gives you somewhere to begin.
And if you’ve already been away for a while, you can leave yourself that note today. Open the project, have a look around, and get your bearings. You don’t have to finish anything to make returning easier.
Give Future You a helpful welcome back. They’ll appreciate it far more than another mysterious note saying “fix this.” 💖

Paste in your latest draft, notes, or a quick account of what you remember, then ask: “I’ve lost momentum with [project]. Using what I’ve shared, help me write a short restart note. Include where I stopped, what’s already usable, any decisions still needed, and one clear next action. Flag anything you’re unsure about rather than filling in the gaps.”
Also, ask for a restart note at the end of any important AI working session while the details are still in the conversation so that you’ll have a place to begin when you go back to it. 🤔
