Hi
Writer Haruki Murakami has a great way to think about time and money:
“Spend your money on the things money can buy.
Spend your time on the things money can’t buy.”
You can apply it to your business as well as your life.
Money can buy software, templates, and training, and it can pay for help with tasks someone else can do as well (or better) than you.
But it can't buy your judgment, your ideas, your understanding of your customers or the relationships you build with them. Those deserve your time.
It doesn’t mean buying everything that promises to save you five minutes. That is how we end up with 17 subscriptions and no idea what half of them do. Ask me how I know. 🤣
But sometimes trying to save a small amount of money can cost you half a Tuesday.
Before doing everything yourself, ask whether the task really needs your time. If money can take care of it (and you have the budget), your time could be better spent on the parts of your business (and your life) that money can’t buy. 💖
Bonus AI tip: Give AI your recurring task list and a realistic monthly budget: ”“Here are the tasks I regularly do in my business: [add your list]. My budget for tools or help is [amount]. Sort the tasks into: needs my personal attention, could be automated, could be delegated, could be simplified and could be stopped. Prioritize changes that would return the most time for the least money, while protecting the creative work, decisions and customer relationships that benefit from being done by me.” 🤔
